About Forestville
The Russian River Valley town of Forestville has become known as the place where "the wine country meets the redwoods." This unincorporated Sonoma County town of about 2,400 is just a 90 minute drive from San Francisco and is located about 15 miles northwest of the county seat of Santa Rosa.
Once in the middle of a flourishing logging community, Forestville now attracts artists, musicians, and small-business entrepreneurs who are looking for a peaceful setting just far enough away from the big city to escape the crowds.
Forestville is a logical stop for outdoor enthusiasts, and recreational Forestville activities are many. Fishing, hiking, biking, birdwatching, camping, and many other outdoor pursuits can be enjoyed in or near this little town.
A visit to Steelhead Beach Regional Park will provide you with a place to fish for trout and salmon. In addition, it offers river access for small craft, provides picnic facilities, and is an overall excellent place to view local wildlife including a variety of unusual birds.
Russian River canoe trips are tons of fun and many local outfitters offer exciting and scenic guided tours on this pretty river. Many of the tours include swimming and a group lunch by the water's edge.
Arrive in October and enjoy the Pinot on the River festival, a 3-day weekend full of tastings, seminars, vineyard tours and excellent food.
Camping and RV parks are quite popular near the Sonoma County town of Forestville, but when it comes to locating Forestville lodging, you'll also find a few small inns and B&Bs if you prefer something less rustic.
You'll find Forestville restaurants at a few of the nearby vineyards, inns, or B&Bs but a greater selection can be found in larger cities nearby, such as Santa Rosa or Guerneville.
