About Boyes Hot Springs
The medicinal advantages of the waters of the hot springs of Sonoma County have been recognized for many years, with Native Americans using the natural heat sources at Boyes Hot Springs for bathing, food processing, cooking, ceremonies and medicinal treatments centuries before others arrived and began commercial ventures here.
A visit to Boyes Hot Springs - a town of about 6,500 residents - puts guests in the center of the pretty Sonoma Valley, surrounded by dozens upon dozens of Northern California's best wineries. Additional Boyes Hot Springs activities include visits to the neighboring towns of Sonoma and Glen Ellen, with trips to the many parks located there, including Sonoma and Jack London State Historic Parks, where you can view historic sites or enjoy a variety of outdoor recreation including biking, hiking, and horseback riding. Local Larson Regional Park also offers tennis courts, sports fields, a playground, and plenty of picnic tables.
The town of Boyes Hot Springs gets its name from British captain H.E. Boyes who acquired the property around the turn of the 20th century and discovered a 112 degree spring around which he built a bathhouse. He soon opened a hotel, which became popular with wealthy San Francisco residents who came for the water's curative properties. On the same sight today sits the Sonoma Mission Inn and Spa, offering spa treatments and dips in the same waters.
Boyes Hot Springs lodging includes the local historic inn as well as a few other small inns or lodges. The inns also boast a few excellent Boyes Hot Springs restaurants and a handful of additional small local eateries are available as well.
