About Schellville

The tiny unincorporated community of Schellville is easy to miss, especially since it is easily overshadowed by the ever popular town of Sonoma just four miles up the road. There are only a handful of restaurants and almost no lodging options, but Schellville is home to a hidden Sonoma County gem – the Sonoma Valley Airport. Now this is not just your every day airport. Established after World War II, it houses a unique collection of classic and vintage aircraft. Some of the planes on display include a Curtiss P-40, North American SNJ-4, Cessna 195, Globe Swift, 1918 Curtiss Jenny, Boeing-Stearman PT-17 biplane, Model A Pietenpol, Bird Model A OX-5, Tiger Moth, Seabee amphibious and many more. All of these planes have been meticulously restored and some of them are even in flying condition. Owners always tend to be around to answer questions about their aircraft and the restoration process. The airport also tends to be a hangout for Schellville locals.

In addition to being a showcase for vintage planes, the Sonoma Valley Airport is also a working public airstrip with two asphalt runways. Prior permission is required to fly in or out of the airport.
