Rohnert Park California Information

The central Sonoma County town of Rohnert Park is the county's third largest city, bisected by Highway 101, just south of Santa Rosa. The town is in the middle of the 16-mile stretch that's become known as Telecom Valley.

This city of about 42,000 residents touts itself as one of the first planned communities in the United States. Each neighborhood boasts its own park and elementary school, tree-lined streets, walkways and bike paths, and pretty medium-sized houses. Rohnert Park has long been viewed as one of San Francisco's most desirable suburbs.

There's a large emphasis on children and family life here, with abundant indoor and outdoor recreational opportunities and venues for residents of all ages, including playgrounds, pools, golf courses, tennis courts, and community centers with large sports complexes. Hundreds of kids participate in community sports and seniors gather together to enjoy activities favored by older adults.

For more outdoor fun, Crane Creek Regional Park provides 128 acres of rolling meadows, perfect for hiking, biking, horseback riding, and picnicking. Nearby Cloverdale River Park offers fishing in season and provides river access for kayakers and canoe enthusiasts. There's also a small beach area.

While outdoor living is obviously important to city residents, Rohnert Park activities also include the fine arts. Spreckels Performing Arts Center, established in 1990, brings theater, dance, and music to the residents of this vibrant central Sonoma County town. The Center operates three venues: The Nellie W. Codding Theatre which seats 550 patrons and provides a variety of performance options from concerts to dance troupes; Bette Condiotti Experimental Theatre, dedicated to presenting "unusual" arts offerings; and Pacific Alliance Stage Company, highly acclaimed within the North Bay area for its excellent productions.

Local Sonoma State University provides even more venues for both arts and sporting events and is the host of the annual Green Music Festival, featuring the Santa Rosa Symphony and much more.
