About Geyserville
Geyserville is an unincorporated town located in Sonoma County’s Alexander Valley on Highway 101 just 74 miles north of San Francisco. The town has always been a tourist destination, though for reasons that have varied dramatically since its founding in the mid-1800s. Geyserville was originally the gateway for “The Geysers,” a nearby area filled with geothermal activity. They came to enjoy the soothing properties of the hot springs, as well as to admire the area’s fumaroles and steam vents. The town was made even more popular by the arrival of the San Francisco and North Pacific Railroad in the 1870s.
Modern day tourism in Geyserville is vastly different than that of the 19th century. The Geysers is no longer a site of health spas; it is now a massive complex of geothermal power plants that can produce enough electricity to support 1.1 million people. Tourists now come to Geyserville to enjoy the world famous wines of the Alexander Valley and Dry Creek. Dozens of wineries are located within minutes of the town, and can be reached by either car or bicycle. It proximity to Lake Sonoma also makes Geyserville a great base from which to enjoy nearby Lake Sonoma.
