About El Verano
El Verano is located in the Sonoma Valley near the towns of Santa Rosa, Petaluma and Sonoma. Unlike these larger, more widely-visited towns, it is a quiet little place that has great beauty and very few tourists. El Verano is surrounded by wineries, which makes it a great place to stop for a nice peaceful picnic or snack while on a wine tour. The town’s Elizabeth and Ernie Smith Community parks are perfect spots for picnicking, while its handful of restaurants offers some good dining options.
The area surrounding El Verano is not only made beautiful by its rolling hills and vineyards, but also by its redwood forests and coastline. Visitors can easily access the Sonoma State Historic Park and the Jack London State Park from El Verano. Bikers, hikers and joggers will love the trails running through these parks. The San Pablo Bay is also nearby and provides many opportunities for boating, fishing and other water sports.
While El Verano was once a favorite health retreat for San Franciscans who wanted to experience the town’s hot springs, the resorts have all vanished. The only remaining building has been transformed into a nightclub. Though El Verano may not be the tourist attraction that it once was, it is still a relaxing and beautiful place to visit.
